Title: My Elder Brother

Duration: 45 minutes

Objective:

  • To understand the relationship between siblings
  • To identify the characteristics of a good elder brother
  • To analyze the importance of family support in one's life

Materials:

  • Copies of the story "My Elder Brother"
  • Chart paper and markers
  • Whiteboard and markers

Procedure:

Introduction (5 minutes):

'My Elder Brother' is based on the famous story in Hindi - 'Bade Bhai Saheb' written by Munshi Premchand.

  1. Begin the lesson by asking the students about their siblings and their relationship with them.
  2. Share with them the objectives of the lesson.
  3. Introduce the story "My Elder Brother" and its author.

Reading and Analysis (25 minutes):

  1. Distribute copies of the story "My Elder Brother" to the students.
  2. Ask the students to read the story silently.
  3. Divide the class into small groups and ask them to discuss the following questions:
  • What is the story about?
  • Who are the main characters in the story?
  • What are the characteristics of a good elder brother, according to the story?
  1. After the group discussion, ask each group to share their findings with the class.
  2. Write down the characteristics of a good elder brother on the chart paper.

Application (15 minutes):

  1. Ask the students to reflect on their own relationship with their siblings and compare it with the relationship between the two brothers in the story.
  2. Ask the students to share their thoughts on the importance of family support in one's life.
  3. Write down the students' responses on the whiteboard.

Conclusion (5 minutes):

  1. Summarize the lesson by highlighting the key points discussed during the class.
  2. Ask the students to write a short paragraph on the importance of having a good relationship with siblings and the role of family support in their life.

Assessment: The students will be assessed based on their participation in the group discussion, their responses during the application activity, and their written paragraph.
